I am the chef of Quaint Restaurant in Sunnyside, Queens. We are a mid priced American Bistro. I have been pursuing local farmers to see if I could bring sustainable cooking to queens with a reasonable price. Many Manhattan green restaurants are overpriced. Please visit our website for a menu. I am willing to promote farms in the restaurant and to provide links on our website. We opened April 17, 2006... and hope to bring a new opportunity for local farms. I plan to be on Long Island for the duration of my career.

Cornell Cooperative Extension (CCE) of Madison County is one of 57 cooperative extension associations located in every county in New York State, plus New York City. Local control, local decision making, and in varying degrees local funding is what makes Cornell Cooperative Extension unique compared to other Cooperative Extension organizations in the US. The local staff includes professional educators and specialists who rely on information from researchers and faculty at New York's Land Grant University -- Cornell University -- on topics covering everything from youth and family development to nutrient management planning for dairy farmers. Because of our decentralized structure, local decisions guide the direction of each county association thus creating a wide range of educational programming in every county in New York. Here is Madison County, we are unique in that we sponsor the county's Head Start program along with the Retired Senior Volunteer Program. Many people aren't aware of those associations. Altogether, we oversee close to 1,000 volunteers in our collective organizations and help meet the educational needs of youth, families, farmers and others in the farming community.

This benefits everyone. Students gain access to appealing, high-quality, nutritious foods, while additional farm sales boost local economies.

We are committed to the creation of a locally based, sustainable food system that is nutritionally, ecologically and economically sound. WE fullfill this mission through education, advocacy and community development. Our school-community garden project works with teachers, students, parents, elders, neighbors and community partners to tranform under-utilized school yards into urban gardens that teach students as we develop their self reliance. We provide the education and tools that help low income people access nutritious, locally grown food. Students help to develop and market urban produce and products.

Despite being "downstate" in an urban setting, for the past several years Block Institute has embraced the celebration of New York agriculture with our participation in New York Harvest for New York Kids Week activities and increased its commitment to agricultural education. We stand firmly committed to helping to teach our students, families and staff about New York's farms and farmers, and what it takes to get our food from the ground to our plates. Year round activities center on agriculture - Classroom lessons and therapy sessions feature New York produce - our student "tended" vegetable/ flower garden continues to grow in size and scope - our lunch menu highlights New York products.
